Dr. Flora Sarmiento spent most of her early and high school years in Texas, near the Mexico border. She attended St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. She then completed a second Bachelor of Science in Dental Laboratory Materials at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. In 2013, she moved to Hollywood, Florida, and earned a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Barry University. She went on to receive her Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) degree from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale in May 2018. Dr. Sarmiento underwent extensive surgical training during her four-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where she earned her certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Her training included dentoalveolar surgery, dental implant surgery, maxillofacial pathology, orthognathic surgery, and the treatment of traumatic injuries to the face and jaws.
Dr. Sarmiento prides herself on creating a calm and supportive environment for her patients. Her compassion, empathy, and commitment to clear communication help patients feel informed and confident in their treatment decisions. A lifelong learner, Dr. Sarmiento is passionate about both oral surgery and personal growth.
She enjoys reading clinical literature and self-improvement books. In her free time, she loves to travel, relax on a good beach, dance, sing, and run. She has completed three full marathons and seven half-marathons and is determined to continue improving her pace—possibly even joining her colleagues in a triathlon in the near future. Dr. Sarmiento has tremendous respect for her patients and the field of oral surgery. She understands the complexity of the specialty and is always available to address your questions or concerns.
