Who is an Otolaryngologist, or ENT Specialist?

ENT specialists, also known as otolaryngologists, are medical doctors who diagnose and treat conditions related to the ears, nose, throat, and related structures of the head and neck. They manage a wide range of issues such as chronic sinus infections, hearing loss, voice and swallowing disorders, sleep apnea, and head and neck masses. ENTs are trained in both medical and surgical care, allowing them to address everything from routine concerns to complex conditions.

What Kind of Training Do ENT Specialists Have?

ENT Specialists have completed at least:

  • 4 years leading to an MD (Doctor of Medicine) or DO (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) degree
  • A 5 year (or longer) residency in otolaryngology including general surgery experience and an intensive focus on medical and surgical management of ear, nose, throat, and head and neck conditions
